The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. Psalms 119:72
To define a ‘Christian living’ we would say that one must “Love the Lord and obey His commandments. Sin not. Pray and meditate the word of God” and so on. Every young man and women who trusts in the Lord and love Him, has a desire to live a life pleasing in the sight of the Lord. Yet in most of their lives the word of God is still like a picture of apple on a book, which does not satisfy their hunger. What is the word of God? Is it something that we read and meditate only in some adverse situations of our life to get rid of our problems or sorrows? No. Jesus told His disciples that the words that He was speaking to them were Spirit and Life. The word of God is the food for the inner man in everyone, which is their soul. This is not to be taken as a cake that we occasionally eat for functions and celebrations. It is the daily food for the Soul. Martin Luther says, “The soul can do without everything except the word of God, without which none at all of its wants are provided for.” Without the word of God, a soul loses its life and spirit day by day. Death of one’s soul will not be evident in the physical body. One might be winning the entire world and losing his soul unconsciously, reason being the lack of word of God. The Psalmist says in Psalms 119:71, “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” Though the physical body of a man is living comfortably in its daily life, the soul is facing battle and affliction in all the activities that a man does in his life. Whenever the man does something against the statues of the Lord, the soul dies without the presence of God. Only the Word of God can fight the battle and heal the soul from affliction. It is written in Ephesians 6:17 “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Every soul needs its savior and His redeeming love, which Jesus gave on the Cross. John R.W. Stott said, “We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.” This can happen only when the words that we see in our bible become real in our lives. How is that possible? Yes, the Spirit of God is the most valuable gift that the Lord God has given us. Jesus said “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” This Spirit of God when He comes, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. As you submit to God more and more, God reveals His truth to His people through the Holy Spirit. Be led by the Spirit of God and know what the Psalmist said in Psalms 119:103 “How sweet are Thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” is true.
